Sea Dragons are a species of animal found in Endless Utopia Online.
Biology[]
Sea Dragons are massive marine reptiles known for their broad, flat bodies, which feature four paddle-like limbs, long necks, and tails that are nearly as long, equipped with a caudal fin. They have streamlined heads with sharp, conical teeth designed for gripping slippery prey. Seadragons are the only Dragonids that are marine animals.
Sea Dragons are ovoviviparous, meaning that the mother carries the eggs until they hatch inside her. When they are born, they typically measure between 1 to 2 meters in length, but they can grow to be between 40 and 50 meters long. At this size, they rank among the largest creatures in Agea.
Behavior[]
Sea Dragons are solitary and territorial creatures known for their aggressive behavior when necessary. They typically hunt within their designated areas and do not venture far from home unless food becomes scarce. Interaction with other Sea Dragons occurs primarily for mating; the male usually stays with the female until their offspring is born and grows big enough.
As apex predators, Sea Dragons inhabit all the seas surrounding Uthopos, preying on most marine creatures and occasionally attacking flying animals that come too close to the water. They have been known to target ships sailing within their territory, often mistaking them for prey. Since Sea Dragons are air-breathing animals and their vision is not well-suited for dark environments, they generally avoid diving too deep into the ocean.
Sea Dragons are among the Dragonids that can be tamed by races other than Dracos, specifically by Nymphs, who must be noted, are more succesful than Dracos in the process of training and riding.
Abilities[]
A Sea Dragon's primary weapons are its massive teeth and jaws, which are larger than those of many other dragons. It can also use its long tail like a whip. Additionally, the Sea Dragon's immense size acts as a weapon in itself, allowing it to function as a battering ram. Their size also serves to intimidate both prey and potential attackers.
In terms of swimming abilities, Sea Dragons are efficient swimmers due to their flippers and tail, but they are not specifically built for speed; instead, they emphasize power. While they can achieve bursts of speed, this is only for short distances.
When their heads are above water, Sea Dragons can release a powerful jet stream of water capable of tearing through a ship's hull or extinguishing fires started by their flying relatives.
Background[]
Since the Era of Heroes and Legends, Sea Dragons have been considered extremely dangerous creatures. With their powerful tails, massive boddies, and Water-breath possed a massive threat to ships and therefore, traveling and trade. Similar to their flying cousins, Dragons, they were hunted by Dragon Hunters, albeit to a lesser extent. It is known that a few Nymphs were capable of taming savage Sea Dragons long before the time of Dragon Riders.
The hunting of Sea Dragons by Dragon Hunters continued until the end of the War of the Draco Succession. During this war, a young Draco named Bowein, who had spent most of his life far from society, emerged as the first Dragon Rider. His remarkable skills surpassed those of any previous Dragon Hunters and ultimately led him to become the first Dragon King. Upon assuming the throne, Bowein outlawed the hunting of all dragons, including Sea Dragons.
During this period, a few daring Dracos attempted to tame savage Sea Dragons, although these efforts were far less successful than those of the Nymphs. By the time of the Great Dragon War, a small number of Draco "Sea Dragon Riders" participated in the conflict but were eventually wiped out.
The purge of the dragons that occurred at the end of this conflict also targeted Sea Dragons, though to a lesser extent than other Dragonids. By the conclusion of the slaughter, there were significantly more Sea Dragons under the control of Dracos than any other type of Dragonid.
