Merlin (マーリン, Mārin) is Raiko's personal Artificial Intelligence. Created when she was only nine years old, Merlin had been in her computer for years, assisting Raiko in her every game and programming. Merlin was also responsible for ensuring the activation of the cheat codes in both Raiko's and Arthur's NerveGear systems.
Appearance[]
Most of the time, only Merlin's bust can be seen from Raiko's computer screen. Although, she can at times be seen with the rest of her body too. She is seen as a slim, attractive, tall woman with three beauty marks below her right eye, and with black, shoulder-length hair. For her outfit, she wears a long purple coat.
Personality[]
Merlin showcases a playful yet motherly demeanor, as seen when she asked Raiko multiple times if she was really going for it, prior to the latter's entrapment in Sword Art Online. She also enjoys mocking and teasing her own master, quite confident that Raiko could not hurt or harm her in any way.
Background[]
She first came into being when Raiko was only nine years old, and had been there since. Before the events of Sword Art Online, Merlin assisted Raiko in hacking the game system and implanting cheats, as well as ensuring that no one from the servers would disable them.
Merlin was originally meant to be a simple companion to her developer, a person to talk to and listen to her. However, upon Raiko quitting school and becoming a NEET, Merlin was given an upgrade and possessed an intelligence higher than that of a human. After that, she had become more than a simple friend, but a coding and hacking partner too.

Fairy Dance Arc[]
During Gwenhwyfar's entrance in ALfheim Online, Merlin was able to enter the game as Gwenhwyfar's navigation pixie, although she prefers to stay in full form than pixie form. She assists the Salamander player and the rest of her guild during quests and raids.
Deletion[]
With Gwenhwyfar being a GM in ALfheim now, MeRLin mainly works to find bugs, bots and cheater inside the game, which was an irony considering that Gwenhwyfar is a cheater herself. MeRLiN also subs for the Salamander at work, when she goes on player-mode for raids and guild-duties.
