Mari Isurugi is a Hazard ReBurst Player who works under the Nebula Oscillation mercenary service. In reality, she works at the Espresso Valet cosplay Cafe, where her co-workers play the game with her. Her twin sister Airi is a fellow player and employee.

Her work outfit is a white, thigh-length dress with gold trim; a white, lace-pattern half-apron; a gold tiara with an emerald-like gem; white thigh-high stockings; high heels; gold lace garter; gold lace gloves with sleeves; and a choker necklace. She usually keeps her hair in a ponytail. Her casual outfit is simple: a white tank top with gold details over a white shirt, a light grey skirt with black leggings, white and black Converse sneakers, and a gold and white jersey jacket.

Her in-game outfit is modified from Nebula Oscillation's female uniform. It consists of black combat boots, black leggings with off-white short shorts, a white skirted leotard with gold rays of light sprinkled throughout, and a white short jacket with a gold stripe running down the jacket's right sleeve and connecting to a gold X pattern centered over her heart. Nebula Oscillation's logo is emblazoned on the back of this jacket, a stylized image of the Helix Nebula with three Vs running through the center of it. Like her twin, Mari also wears a belt with suspenders left dangling on either side.
When she activates her Valvrave armor, she enters a white and gold version of Airi's Anti-Hazard Frame. It also features slimmer limbs, a shorter torso block, flared hips, and skirting armor that resembles a pleated skirt to provide a feminine silhouette similar to Mari's own hourglass figure. Its left leg has a gold line outlined in black running up to the hip armor, interrupted by an exposed strip of the Rave Circulation Network on the thigh; the right leg is mostly white with black gold highlights, and a similar exposed strip on the thigh. Its head unit boasts a unique blade antenna resembling her Siren weapon's enhanced sword form, being a gold longsword-like blade that splits the entire face in half; its mouthpiece is white, outlined in gold with a dual face vent design. Hardpoints on the thighs allow for Mari to holster for her pistols, while a hardpoint on the waist's back allows her to sheathe her Photon Edge sword. Siren and her Chroma Rifle are stored on back hardpoints.
Personality[]
Mari is curt, crass, and rude to strangers, but deeply caring and loyal to her friends and family. If need be, she will not hesitate to physically retaliate, swatting away people's hands if they dare try to grope her. Her reckless confidence often puts her in situations beyond her scope, but so long as she has her twin sister with her, Mari can handle anything and anyone. Having spent more time with papa Isurugi, Mari enjoys a good workout and handles all the heavy lifting between the twins. Owing to a less than favorable relationship in high school, Mari is very selective about the men in her life and holds them to the highest standards, but also holds a deep insecurity about being not enough. Rather than confront this, Mari puts on the mask of the confident, almost rude twin who dispenses with the pointless niceties and gets straight to the point. Deep down is a girl who wants to love, but is too scared to trust anyone but her other half.
Background[]
Mari and Airi live very normal lives. While mom encouraged Airi's love for cooking, dad took Mari out to the park to play, watching over her in case the other young boys tried any funny business. This blossomed into a love for physical activity and a stern backbone against the boys who got too handsy. Thus was their family life, content and happy with who they were. That is, until high school. The twins didn't attend an elite school, performing well enough to get by, but it was their social life that struck a nerve. One day, a boy confessed to Mari, and assuming no ulterior motives, she agreed to go out with him. They dated for a few months before the boy tried to pivot to dating Airi. When Mari found out, she cut the guy out of her life and made a vow to find a worthy man. This incident was also the reason why Airi started dyeing her hair red. And as the story goes, the twins joined their friends cosplay cafe following graduation, Mari in the front of house and Airi in the kitchen, which then led to playing Hazard ReBurst and becoming the legendary Aegis twins.

Mari is an aggressive fighter, overwhelming her opponents with a barrage of sword slashes from her Photon Edge and her Siren Calibur. While her sister prefers speed, Mari prefers strength, heaving her two swords and carefully manipulating their momentum to deal as much damage as possible in one strike. This is especially evident in her liberal use of the Photon Siren, combining and disconnecting her swords as she sees fit. For long-range engagements, she has her Chroma rifle and the Siren Blaster, sometimes dual-wielding them for suppressive fire. Owing to the Elementalist Valvrave specs, Mari can manipulate light and photons to a limited degree, such as unleashing blinding flashes from her Valvrave's palms or creating fragile hard-light constructs for emergency attacks. Her fighting style usually places her in either a front-line position or as long-range support, working with her sister to defend objectives with ferocity.

- She's based on Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
- The Kanji for her given name (愛莉) can also be read as Airi, causing confusion with her twin sister.
- In stark contrast to her sister, Mari is a terrible cook and surprisingly clumsy. All her cooking attempts ended in disastrous, almost deadly, culinary nightmares. A kitchen nightmare, if you will. One such attempt brought forth an eldritch purple aura with twitching Lovecraftian tentacles (it was an attempt at takoyaki).
- She's also a sleepwalker. At home, she and her sister sleep in separate rooms, but she sometimes wakes up in Airi's bed.
- Mari and Airi share the same figure, though Mari has a smaller bust and a plumper rear than her twin. Both are F-cups, however.
- The twins have a very low alcohol tolerance. Mari gets drunk after two beers, while Airi abstains from drinking all together.
- Mari is older than her sister by 2 minutes.
