Battle of the Skies - Purging of Dragons |
The Great Dragon War was a significant military conflict that pitted the Dracos against five other nations.
Empowered by their ability to ride dragons, the Dracos initiated an invasion to subjugate the other five races.
Background[]
After the crowning of Bowein I Aldrake as the first Dragon King and the further proliferation of dragon riding, the power held by Dracos was uncontested. Eventually, one of the descendants of Bowein, Dragon King [REDACTED] began a war of conquest of Uthopos against the other five nations.
War[]
The final battle fought was a massive air battle between the remaining Dragon Riders and the beast Tamer Avians, along with a few Fairies and Fiends. The Battle of the Skies was a pyrrhic victory for the alliance.
Aftermath[]
During and especially after the conflict, the five races engaged in a systematic slaughter of Dragons where they could find them. Though the Dracos negotiated reasonable peaceful terms with the victors, the number of dragons had been notably reduced from hundreds of thousands to less than five thousand.
After this war, Dracolords began to monopolize Dragons, with only family members and trusted men able to become Dragon Riders. Wild Dragons also became far rarer, but killing them became a last resort, as the lack of Dragons made them more valuable than gold.
The war's end was also a major blow to the power of House Aldrake, who had to renegotiate their powers and prerogatives with the other Dracolords, transforming an absolute monarchy into a constitutional monarchy. This loss of power for the draco royal house eventually led to the War of the Twin Alliances and Heleanne's Rebellion.
