The Dragon Signers is a character class in Sword Art Online and New ALfheim Online. The Dragon Signers are players fused with and capable of summoning a Legendary Dragon.
Kayaba Akihiko designed this player class, but was discarded after SAO was designed as a Non class VRMMORPG. However, the files for Dragon Signers were retained, and some players were capable of obtaining the powers of these dragons. This class somehow appeared in New ALO as well.
Overview[]
To summon a dragon, these players must have defeated it previously (though there are exeptions, where the dragon chooses his player).
After this both beings fused into one. As result of this "fusion", the player earns a red mark of the dragon on one of their forearms and gains many abilities of the dragon.
The player can call upon his dragon whenever he wants to. First, the mark begins to shine red. Afterwards they need to recite a special chant for each specific dragon. Each chant has a close reference to the powers of the flying beast. After this, the dragon is summoned.
It should be noted that for summoning a Dragon it's necessary great power and energy. The souls of the Dragon and the Signer are so connected to each other, that any damage caused to the dragon affects the player and vice versa.

Trivia[]
- It shares similatiries with the Beast Tamer type of player. However, the dragon resides inside of the Signer and can be summoned whenever they wish to. In contrast, Beast Tamers' tamed beast is always present next to the player.
