Hiroto Myoukouin is an Armored Nexus Online Player who acts on his own as the sole member and proprietor of the Astray Detective Agency.

Appearance[]

Reality[]

Hiroto's work outfit consists of a white dress-shirt with a red necktie, a black waistcoat, slim-fitting black pants, and red high-top sneakers; an occasional disposable face mask is worn at his discretion. He wears a thin grey hoodie with parallel red lines running down the sleeves, a black and red flannel jacket over that, black skinny jeans, and red high-tops as his casual outfit. In the summer, he swaps the hoodie and flannel for a black and red t-shirt with a dark red haori jacket featuring a hexagonal pattern that extends down to just above his knees. Other times, he swaps the flannel and haori while keeping the hoodie.

In-Game[]

Hiroto’s Mikaido avatar wears a dark grey shirt under a black dress shirt; a black and red pinstripe necktie; a dark red waistcoat with six angular straps running from the neck down; black combat pants; dark grey shin-high combat boots with silver buckles; and his signature dark red jinbaori coat with three tattered coattails, a flared high collar that Hiroto buckles together to cover his mouth, and a black flame pattern running down from the back of the coat to the edges of the coattails. Hiroto also wears a necklace with a hexagonal pendant containing a red gem outline in an emerald green alloy, keeping it tucked under his waistcoat. He's also been known to wear a full helmet with a removable silver faceplate featuring a single angular slit and two dark red stripes running vertically down its surface. This mask is replaced by his Armor Model's helmet when he summons and equips it. Initially, he wore a simple red long-sleeved t-shirt, black fingerless gloves, a black and red two-tailed coat, dark grey combat pants, and black combat boots. Every now and then, Hiroto switches back to this original outfit as a means of disguising himself, since his usual attire is synonymous with his "Astray Detective" identity.

Personality[]

Like his cousin, Hiroto is an introvert who ignores any rumors or gossip concerning him. While also blunt and straightforward, he's nowhere near as perverted and flirtatious as his cousin Katsuo; he does have a hint of flirt in him when around his close friend Ayame. Both Myoukouins share a love of music and anime, strong sense of justice and honor, dry and dark sense of humor, and generally relaxed nature. Throughout his youth, Hiroto was a deeply introverted individual, spending most of his time with a small, close-knit group of friends. When everyone grew up and moved away, the loss of contact drove him back to introversion, interacting only with those he knows and never attempting to really reach out. As a result, Hiroto only ever developed romantic feelings for those he was deeply close to. However, an internal conflict arose, as he believed he shouldn't let romantic feelings interfere with the status quo, for fear that it could drive away the few friends he has left. In repressing his own emotions, Hiroto became the no-nonsense, "hard-boiled" detective everyone claims him to be; the one who can make the toughest decision in a desperate situation. With his sense of justice and hard-boiled attitude, Hiroto has proven himself, time and time again, to be a trustworthy and reliable detective. His highly analytical and deductive mind often focuses on the more minute details, often disregarding the more obvious stuff and hyper-focusing on seemingly-unimportant information. Despite all of this, Hiroto holds a great deal of empathy, sympathizing with clients and considering other people as people from the case's reference point rather than just another source of information or clues in the investigation. Though not one to normally lose his cool when insulted, Hiroto will intervene if someone else talks bad about another person, even if he doesn’t know any of them. His retaliations can range from a minor insult or full-blown assault, depending on the situation.

Rather than burden people with his issues, Hiroto bottles up everything he feels and leaves it to fester. All of his malicious and intrusive thoughts become the driving force behind the menacing aggression associated with his in-game reputation as the Asura. Much of this mentality comes from his years of introversion, where Hiroto found it difficult to open up because he feared that a newfound friend would leave after hearing him complain about his day. Years of repression have turned him into a seemingly-emotionless individual, hiding a relentless demon driven by anger to kill anything and anyone in his path if given the right opportunity.

He is quite the perfectionist, spending days building model kits to hone each and every fine detail to its peak. His perfectionism grants him a greater insight into other's models, giving him a keen eye on how they built their model and what it can and cannot do. Hiroto holds a great disdain for using nanites and nanotechnology, viewing them as the easy method to obtaining the fruits of genuine hard work and effort. He hates players who would exploit the use of nanotech as a simplistic justification for their absurdly powerful technology, and thus included this philosophy in his armor's design. By adding an anti-nanotech property to his suit's energy source, Hiroto is able to counter anyone who abuses nanotechnology and, in his mind, teach them a lesson. Though he cannot use regular healing items and support units, Hiroto views this as a reason to find creative and interesting solutions for problematic situations, offering a challenge to him that he would like to overcome rather than taking the easy way out.

Background[]

Hiroto was born and raised to his loving parents. Even from a young age, he always had trouble making friends, which worried his parents. He spent a lot of time with his cousin Katsuo, whom he took a lot of influence from. As Hiroto grew up, he began to open up ever so slightly, forming a small group of people he could call his friends. However, his friends started moving away or stopped talking to him for various reasons, leading Hiroto to close himself off again. He found solace in building model kits and video games, inviting one of his few remaining childhood friends to join in his hobbies. To support his hobby, Hiroto took up a job at a popular nearby cafe, working hard to make the perfect cup of coffee for his customers. Just as he was getting really into VRMMOs and model kits, the reveal of Armored Nexus Online piqued his interest. He followed the game’s pre-release content obsessively, awaiting the day when he could show off his Armor Model and play the game. When ANO launched, Hiroto was among the first few thousand players to immediately log in, having spent months perfecting his Armor Model and the lore he’d put behind it. Following this, Hiroto decided he'd take up a job at one of ANO's Nexus Cafes, seeing no detriments there. He'd have constant access to the game, and he'd be able to print out his equipment to build during his work breaks while happily serving fellow players and model kit enthusiasts. During his early days in ANO, he became a detective for Legionnaire Law Enforcement, but an incident known to the public as "Asura's Wrath" led to Hiroto leaving the force and earning his nickname "Asura." From that point on, he decided to bask in the image he now held, wielding this demonic reputation as the Astray Detective.

Armored Nexus Online[]

Hiroto is a master builder and a skilled warrior. Influenced by Gundams and Tokusatsu shows, Hiroto created his unique MC-016A "Mikoto Astray" Armor Model. This armor emphasizes modularity with its unique Mikoto System allowing Hiroto to equip separate Core Modules for different situations and purposes. Even without additional weapons and equipment, the Mikoto Astray is a formidable armor, bearing incredible STATUS rankings due to the sheer volume of Lore Hiroto invested into it. Without any equipment, Hiroto fights with a calm, relaxed style that uses whatever's around him to deal as much as possible. He stalks his opponent, casually blocking and dodging attacks before quickly unleashing a fast, brutal counterattack. Normally, Hiroto wields a single "Astray Blade" katana, featuring an Iaido-like style which emphasizes speed and power above all else. When using alternate Mikoto Cores, he'll change his style to better suit whatever equipment he's using. In an all-out battle, Hiroto demonstrates an unrestrained, wild fighting style, striking his enemies' weak points and mercilessly executing them as quickly as possible before moving to the next target and repeating until the battlefield is empty. This fighting style, among many other things, is why people call him "Asura," after a mythological being who seeks power and fights without any restraint. Those who know of the Asura fear, criticize, and respect him for his skills, making it known that Hiroto is a demon on the battlefield who might lash out and propagating the rumor that he's an unstable sociopath who may hurt anyone at any given time.

Hiroto disapproves of nanite and other nanotechnologies, incorporating this into his Armor Model lore by giving his suit's unique energy anti-nanotech properties. Should an enemy's nanotech-based equipment take damage from the Mikoto Astray's energy attacks, the affected areas have a chance of malfunctioning, lowered efficiency, or outright exploding due to a small chance of a highly volatile and negative reaction to nanites and nanotechnology. Because of this, he cannot use standard medical nanotechnology health packs to repair damage. To compensate, he has a very weak passive healing factor and regularly synthesizes his own healing serums made from concentrated doses of the same energy that powers the Mikoto Core Armor Model series. These serums are single-use syringes that temporarily boost his healing factor once applied to damaged areas.

As previously mentioned, Hiroto is praised for his impressive skills as a detective. His perception is keen, many praise his leadership skills, his physical stamina and multitasking are above average, and his ability to quickly analyze data and piece things together makes Hiroto a truly incredible detective. Many do criticize him for his lack of communication and lone wolf approach to everything, but they don't argue with the results he gets.

Trivia[]

  • Hiroto is inspired by and named after Hiroto Kuga, the protagonist of Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE.
  • He has a smoking habit in-game, using a fictional brand of cigarette that act as cigarette-shaped sticks of incense; they aren't harmful, addictive, and give off a pleasant, coffee aroma. He tries not to smoke around others out of common courtesy, keeping a toothpick or lollipop in his mouth as his real-life substitute.
  • His username is based on the naming scheme of the Brilliant Detectives of ID: Invaded, mixing the "ido" found in each Detective's name with the "Mikoto" he used in his Armor Models.
  • His catchphrase is from Kamen Rider W. Hiroto even does the accompanying wrist flick and finger point when saying it, though he does so in a more menacing manner. Often times, he performs a throat-slitting gesture instead of the wrist flick, upholding his title of "Ashura."
  • Hiroto is a big fan of jazz and MIYAVI, often playing the Samurai Sessions albums in his office during his downtime. A selection of the tunes he listens to in his office is listed under "Office Vibes" in his music themes section. The soundtrack for both seasons of Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt are among the many songs he has playing in his office.
  • Hiroto's necklace authorizes the Mikoto Astray's deployment when he's not in the armor.
  • Like almost all of my protagonists, Hiroto drives a motorcycle. His real-life bike is a Honda Rebel 1100 customized to resemble the Battle Hopper seen in Kamen Rider Black Sun, albeit in a faded red color scheme. His in-game bike is based on the Gigantic Arms 06 Rapid Raider in black and red, with custom decals and panel lining as well as more clear red parts throughout the inner frame that glow when the bike is active. This in-game bike features abilities seen in the Shin Kamen Rider Cyclone, such as its autonomous driving capabilities and transformation into a high-speed combat state when Hiroto equips his armor.
  • Also like most of my protagonists, Hiroto uses the personal pronoun (, Boku?).
  • Hiroto has a pet Netherland Dwarf rabbit named Io.
  • The 016 designation in his Armor Models is Goroawase for his name. "Hi" can be read as 1, "Ro" as 6, and "to" as 10. While it should literally be 1610, he rearranged it to 016.
